YAI GUAY Story
“Banana fibre” is natural material which is rarely used, particularly to
make clothes and bags. There are many steps to process the banana
fabric and it is time-consuming starting from the selection of the
banana trees extraction of the fibre from the banana trees rinsing,
selecting the shiny quality fibre, drying the fibre at the appropriate
temperature and using each fibre to be woven.
As the banana fibre is a short and thin string only a sophisticated artisan to create the immaculate fabric.
We
use banana fibre made by handicapped women from the development centre
for handicapped women in Lao PDR. This will help support the physically
less privileged women to increase their roles and achievements in
society. The fabric that we use is also from the women in Savannakhet
province who use different techniques from the other regions Ultimately,
our aim is to promote and support Lao artisans and to protect skilled
labour to have jobs and received appropriate compensation to ensure a
better living life.
